Recent Events at Salem
Salem is an active and engaged congregation, offering many opportunities to gather for worship, service, study, outreach, and fellowship. Here are some recent highlights captured by Salem photographer Pat Bock.
As we do on the first Monday of each month, we offered our "Nu Oli" Hawaiian Worship. This month, children from St. Luke's United Methodist Church joined and provided special music.
Mark your calendars now for the Salem Spring Fling from 8:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, May 25th! The Spring Fling will include a tag sale, food, a ministry faire, a dedicated kids area, music and hula.
Click Here for a complete rundown of all events in detail, including information on resesrving space to particpate as a seller in the tag sale.
Beginning on Sunday May 26th, Salem will begin its summer worship schedule. That means instead of two worship services on Sunday mornings, we will have one service at 9:30am with fellowship opportunities before and after the service. We will return to our normal two-service pattern of worship on Sunday, September 8th.
We are looking for a Core Ministry Coordinator for the Fellowship Ministries here at Salem.
This person(s) would be responsible for coordinating (that is, bringing the people together to plan and execute) our Fellowship events, such as Sunday morning coffee hours after both services, the annual Easter Breakfast, an Easter Egg Hunt, the Church Picnic, Spring Fling/Fall Festival, "7900 Club", Lunch Bunch, etc.
Many of these ministry events already have people in place who are willing to take the lead in planning, but our newly approved organizational and ministry structure calls for an overall coordinator in this area of ministry.
Our other Core Ministry Coordinators are: Pat Bock (Witness), Roger Kjosa (Worship), Kelly Scott (Faith Formation), and Paula Strode (Service).
Please speak with one of them or Pastor Julie to let us know of your willingness to serve in this way.
Our regular Wednesday mid-week worship has been on hiatus for several weeks, but Wednesday nights at Salem are back in a new and exciting way!
We know that many people in our area work in the tourism, entertainment, and hospitality industries where there is no such thing as a "Monday throgh Friday, Nine to Five" schedule, making worship on Sunday mornings difficult if not impossible. We also know there are times when even those of us who felt renewed when we left church on Sunday are dragging a little spiritually by mid-week. Thus, the reason for what we're calling the Mid-Week Recharge.
The first Wednesday of each month will be devoted to worship in the form of Bible study, led by our own Kawehi Punahele.
The second and fourth Wednesdays of the month will offer worship with Holy Communion led by Pastor Julie and Salem's Praise Team.
On the third Sunday of each month, we'll worship through service, focusing on a current service project at Salem, or, at times, venturing out into our community and outside of our four walls.
On months with a fifth Wedesday, which inclue May, July, and October in 2013, we'll worship through fellowship in the form of a pot-luck supper.
Join us and spread the word!
